John Northern Hilliard (1872-1935) was an American journalist and author who immersed himself in the world of stage magic. In 1925 he joined popular magician Howard Thurston's traveling magic show, touring with the group for the next 10 years. "Greater Magic," first published in 1935, is the product of those years, during which he met virtually all of the best magicians of the day. The book is a comprehensive text book of magic. "It covers the whole field from pocket tricks to stage illusions." (from jacket front panel).
