Comments

Ruth Krauss' rare first book and the only juvenile illustrated by abstract impressionist artist Ad Reinhardt. Published the year after she married cartoonist and children's book author Crockett Johnson. Krauss enjoyed a long career in collaboration with illustrators including her husband (beginning with Carrot Seed in 1945); Marc Simont; and especially, Maurice Sendak, whose career took off following the success of "A Hole is to Dig" in 1952. Krauss and Sendak together produced 8 successful children's books. OCLC/Worldcat locates only 6 copies of this 1944 first edition. "A Good Man and His Good Wife" was reissued in 1962 with illustrations by Marc Simont.
