An anonymous work of literary criticism focusing primarily on the classics. First volume contains a general introduction followed by sections on Epic Poetry and Lyric Poetry; Vol. II, Part 1 begins with a short section on Pastoral Poetry, followed by Satire; Vol. II, Part 2 concludes the section on Satire and follows with Elegaic Poetry; Vol. 3 is devoted entirely to Tragedy; Vol. IV begins with a brief section on Comedy, the remainder of the volume explores Of the Sublime and the Pathetic.
