Asa Fairfield (1854-1926) was born in Massachusetts and came overland to California with his family in 1865. They settled at Honey Lake Valley in Lassen County where Fairfield began his career as a teacher in 1875. Except for 4 years spent in Iowa, Fairfield lived his entire life in the region practicing his profession. Fairfield Peak in Lassen National Park is named for him.
