Coxe combed the libraries of St. Petersburg for the journals of Russian explorers Nevodsikoff, Serebranikoff, Trapesnikoff, Pushkareff, Drusinin, Kulkoff, Korovin, Glottoff, Solovioff, Otcheredin, Krenitizin, Levasheff, Synd, Bering, Chirikov, et al, and the text is largely his translation of extracts of these journals.
