This copy ex libris J. Leroy Nickel (1895-1959) with his bookplate to front fixed endpaper. Nickel was known as one of the largest land barons in California. As director of the estate of his father-in-law Henry Miller, he once controlled nearly 5 million acres of land in Northern and Central California. He lived in Atherton, California.
