A Belgian Roman Catholic, Emilie d'Oultremont (1818-1878) was widowed in 1847 when her husband died of maleria, leaving her with her 4 children (2 male, 2 female). In 1854 she had a profound religious experience that led her to devote the remainder of her life to her church. Final approval for her beatification was made by Pope John Paul II in 1996.
