The Rev. John Ignatius Bleasdale (1822-1884) an English Catholic priest, educated in Portugal and posted to the Victoria Colony in Australia. Bleasdale had become acquainted with viticulture and winemaking during his 7 years in Portugal and he brought his knowledge to Victoria where he had great influence in the development of winemaking in the region. In 1878 he went to California where he continued his work to the benefit of viticulturists here. He remained in California until his death in 1884. Publication number 221 of the Book Club of California. Designed at the Anchor and Acorn Press in Petaluma, CA and printed at the Hillside Press in San Francisco. Autographed by the author on title page.
