This history was commissioned by an act of legislature to commemorate the centennial of the founding of the New York State Agricultural Society. Author U. P. Hedrick (1870-1951) was an accomplished botanist and horticulturalist who came to the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in 1905 and became its director in 1928, retiring in 1937.
