A memoir of the daughter of pioneer missionaries Asa and Lucy Goodale Thurston. Daughter Lucy was born in 1823 in Honolulu and lived most of her life at Kailua, Kona. Her one trip to the mainland, together with her mother and sister Persis was in 1841, arriving at New York on Feb. 4. She died at the home of "New York Observer" editor A.P. Cummings 3 weeks later. Text includes many extracts from Lucy's letters and journals and offers the unique insights of a pious young lady on the early missionary period in Hawaii. The first edition of this tender biography was published the same year by Dayton & Newman. Forbes 1331.
