NY: Macmillan, 1919. Unrecorded reprint of the first edition? Hardcover. Original light brown pictorial paper over boards with cover design blocked in black, blue, and orange; 193 pp. + publisher catalogue at rear. Frontispiece photograph of Jack London by Arnold Genthe. Miniscule archival mends to spine tips, else a fine, bright, unworn copy, remarkably well-preserved. Near fine. Item #21161
Title page has the year 1919 beneath the publisher's imprint at the bottom of the page, rather than 1918, though copyright page lists only the first printing of October 1918 beneath the copyright notice. This is a remarkable departure from Macmillan's usual practice of removing the year from the title page and adding to the printing history on the copyright page in the event of a reprint. We find no other copies described thus and consider it to be a rare anomaly. BAL 11977; Sisson/Martens p. 98; Woodbridge 154.
