Early work by the colorful and prolific poet of the West Coast. BAL issue A sheets (ads at front begin with "Thoughts About Art", binding B wth publisher's imprint at spine foot "Roberts Bros." This copy with 24 pages at rear described by BAL in postscript note as a "terminal catalog," though it consists entirely of reviews from the English press, concluding with a biography of the poet from the New York Evening Post. The newsclipping pasted in is the complete text of "A Letter to the Public from the Poet's Wife - Checkmating the Mrs. Stowes of the Futures" to the Portland Daily Oregonian. Dated Salem, Oregon, by M. M. Miller. November 5, 1871. BAL 13751.
