1837 Student's Manuscript Trigonometry and Surveying Notebook

Highlands (Maryland): 1837. Hardcover. Original leather spine and plain boards, about 100 leaves with manuscript exercises, examples, problems in plane trigonometry and surveying. Crude color drawings illustrate several of the surveying problems. Signed "Robert L. Rogers, Highlands School, March 7, 1837." Moderate scuffing and soiling to covers, 1 leaf loose, else about very good. Good. Item #20076

Apparently a complete basic course in trigonometry and land surveying. Cursive handwriting is neat and text and geometric figures are laid out in a careful and aesthetic pleasing manner. An interesting example of early nineteenth-century educational practice. Provenance: part of a group of materials from a local estate with ancestral family connections to the Rogers of Highlands, Maryland (other addresses include Marriottsville and Forest View).
