Chicago: Overland Publishing Company, 1878. First edition. Hardcover. Original green cloth stamped in black and gilt; octavo; (4) fl, (25)-255, 300-322 pp. Printed adverts to verso of last text page and endpapers. Wood engraved illustrations and maps, including 18 double-page and many full page engravings. Small tears to cloth over rear joint, but with internal damage to rear board and last few pages (looks as though the book might have been stabbed through the joint and into the edge of the board and pages). Still quite a clean and presentable copy. Good. Item #18211

First in this series of Crofutt's guides to the railroad route to the West. Earlier series (first published in 1869) were titled "Great Trans-continental Railroad Guide" and "Crofutt's trans-continental tourist's guide." This title not in Cowan or Howes, though the series noted above are recognized. OCLC record notes the eccentric pagination - ommitting pages 1-24 and 56-299.
