Stevenson's "Sermon" is a rumination on life from the viewpoint of one anticipating death. Though he lived for another 6 years following the first publication of this address, he had suffered with poor health for a great many years. Printed by D. B. Updike, the Merrymount Press, Boston. Originally publication was in Scribner's Magazine, Dec., 1888, then collected in "Across the Plains," London, 1892. This Updike printing is the first separate book edition. Prideaux p. 80.
