BIRDS-EYE VIEW OF SANTA ROSA, SONOMA COUNTY, CAL. 1897.

San Francisco: H. S. Crocker, 1897. First edition. Map. Original color lithograph on thin, semi-transparent wove paper, sheet size 51.5 x 86.5 cm (23.25 x 34 inches), image size 43.5 x 76 cm (17.25 x 30 inches). Laid down on archival tissue. Marginal stains, faint horizontal crease from folding, small areas of paper loss to 3 points at margin edges. Item #21089

Lower margin with printed title and letter key to 3 land features flanked by numbered reference key in 4 columns to 41 identified public and commercial buildings within the view. "Presented by W.D. Reynolds, Real Estate and Insurance Agent. Investment of Funds and Negotiation of Loans" printed at upper left in image field. W. D. Reynolds together with T. A. Proctor published "The Illustrated Atlas of Sonoma County" in 1897. The color lithograph image is very bright and buildings, streets, landforms, and flora are sharply defined. While the perspective is much the same as in the 1885 Elliott & Co. view, the image area is much larger and shows considerable development around the city. Rare; not found on OCLC, not in Reps.

Price: $4,500.00
