Introductory matter includes a preface by Albert Pope (of Pope Manufacturing Co.) and the text of a speech on military cycling given to the League of American Wheelmen at Chicago, May 31, 1892 by General [Nelson A.] Miles. Content includes charts showing various drill formations, several pages of musical notations for trumpet calls, etc. Advertisement depicts the "Soldier's Standard Bicycle" model of the Columbia Light Roadster made by the Pope Manufacturing Company. Preparer Brigadier General Albert Ordway (1843-1897) began his military career in 1861, during the Civil War, as a private in the 4th Battalion, Massachusetts Militia. By war's end he held the rank of Major, with a brevet as Brigadier General, United States Volunteers. OCLC locates 16 copies worldwide.
