A superb history of the Napa Valley from the aboriginal Wappo Indians, through the first European pioneers, to the end of the 19th century. Photographer Charles Beebe Turrill (1854-1927) was born in Folsom, CA, but lived most of his life in San Francisco. His archive of nearly 5000 images of California forms part of the Alice Phelan Sullivan Library of the Society of California Pioneers in San Francisco.
